BP's ampm Sweet on Dessert Promotion

CHICAGO -- BP's ampm is hoping to appeal to customers’ sweet tooth by offering two classic Hispanicdesserts for 99 cents through the end of June.

Customers at participating ampm locations can indulge themselves with a jellyroll and a sugar cookie called a "trevol" or any combination of the two for 99 cents this month.

BP’s ampm launched the desserts in May, and are available at all participating ampm convenience stores located in the eastern United States and stores with bakeries in the western United States.

The jellyroll and trevol are the latest bakery items in a lineup of ampm-exclusive Hispanic products. The c-store chain also sells Hispanic sweet breads, or conchas, in two styles: white and chocolate. Their success inspired the development of the jellyroll and trevol, the company said in a statement.

"These two new desserts are just another way we are satisfying customers who enjoy traditional Hispanic food and flavors," said Andrew Baird, BP’s vice president of marketing for convenience retail. "Our conchas are one of our top five best-selling bakery items."

Like the conchas, the jellyroll and trevol are oven-baked fresh every day and are based on authentic Hispanic recipes.

The jellyroll is a mildly sweet, swirled white cake topped with pink icing and white coconut flakes. The triangle-shaped trevol is a sugar cookie iced with yellow, brown and pink frosting. The tricolored icing, one for each tip of the cookie, is flavored vanilla, chocolate and strawberry.

"The Hispanic market is growing across the nation," Baird added. "We recognize this and have been introducing affordable, tasty products that appeal to this demographic for years. Having said that, you don’t have to be of Hispanic heritage to enjoy one of these new treats."

ARCO-branded ampm stores are found in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Arizona; BP-branded ampm stores operate in Chicago, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Orlando, Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Atlanta. There are more than 1,800 ampm stores in Brazil and Japan.
