Corner Store Hatches New Fall Foods

SAN ANTONIO –- Corner Store is inviting customers to "get hatched" with four new foodservice offerings that feature authentic Hatch chiles from New Mexico.

Available as of Sept. 1, new items on the main menu include a slow-roasted turkey puff pie filled with Hatch chiles and cheddar cheese, and a Hatch chile-seasoned grilled chicken taquito with pepper jack cheese. New breakfast items are a Hatch chile and egg breakfast taco made with homemade flour tortillas, and a signature kolache with Hatch chile Kiolbassa sausage.

Corner Store's $4 breakfast includes two kolaches or breakfast tacos paired with a Cibolo Mountain coffee or 32-ounce fountain drink.

"Americans increasingly celebrate the use of fresh, seasonal ingredients like Hatch chiles," said Richard Poye, Corner Store's director of foodservice. "At Corner Store, we're not the typical convenience store; we are a go-to destination for breakfast, lunch and sometimes even dinner for our busy customers. We want to give our customers food that's fresh, exciting and packed with taste."

For the first time, Corner Store served as the official sponsor of the 43rd annual Hatch Chile Festival, held in Hatch, N.M., on Aug. 30-31. The retailer participated in the parade with a Hatch chile-decorated whoopie pie food truck, and Corner Store foodies judged the salsa and green chile cookoff competitions, the company reported.

In addition to the Hatch chile items, other new fall offerings now available at Corner Store locations include a spinach and feta puff pie for $1.99, and a pumpkin spice whoopie pie for 99 cents.

All of the new foods are part of Corner Store's signature Fresh Choices line of foods baked or prepared fresh in the store's kitchen. Other Fresh Choices items include sausage kolaches made with sweet bread, cookies, doughnuts and breakfast tacos on homemade tortillas.
