CSNews Opens 5th Annual Spirit Awards Contest

JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Convenience Store News is now accepting entries for its fifth annual Spirit Awards for Community Outreach contest. These awards celebrate convenience store retailers whose community service programs better the lives of people in the markets they serve.

One Grand Award and three awards based on c-store chain size – one to 99 stores, 100 to 499 stores, and 500-plus stores -- are presented annually.

Submissions must include detailed descriptions of the community service programs that took place during 2012-2013. Winning entries will be selected based on the scope of giving, personal involvement of company management and associates, innovation and creativity of programs, and more. All entries are due by Sept. 2.

Last year's Grand Spirit Award winner was The Pantry Inc./Kangaroo Express. The three category winners were: Tevis Oil/Jiffy Mart (one to 99 stores), Northern Tier Energy/SuperAmerica (100 to 499 stores) and Valero Energy Corp./Corner Store (500-plus stores).
