Family Dollar to Sell More National Brands, Add to Private Label

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Family Dollar plans to broaden its customer base by adding more than 1,000 new products to its shelves over the next few months, according to a Charlotte Business Journal report. New national brands will include PepsiCo beverages, Gerber baby food and L'Oreal beauty supplies.

The chain will also increase the amount of private label products it offers in order to provide more options at an affordable price, said Kiley Rawlins, vice president for investor relations and communications.

Other additions include tobacco products at 5,000 stores, as well as extra impulse items and beer at certain test stores, according to a Business Insider report.

Approximately 1,300 stores have been renovated to a new store format that features a new façade and signage and higher capacity. Another 1,500 stores are slated to be remodeled by the end of the year.
