Frieda’s Urges America to ‘Eat One Fruit a Day That Scares You’

Frieda’s Specialty Produce has unveiled its latest consumer campaign, “Eat One Fruit a Day That Scares You,” in an effort to encourage consumers to stock their grocery carts with specialty fruits like Dragon Fruit, Kiwanos and Mangosteens.

Consumers can participate in the conversation, get tips from other consumers and share their own by using hashtag #FearNoFruit on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

“We want to encourage people to explore the produce department for something new and exciting, and take a chance with an item on the menu you haven’t tasted before,” said Karen Caplan, president and CEO of Los-Alamitos, Calif.-based Frieda’s. “After all, what better way to eat more fruits and vegetables than to keep trying new things? The next new fruit you try might just end up being your new favorite!”

Retailers, wholesalers and foodservice distributors who want to help change the way America eats fruits and vegetables can contact Frieda’s for key merchandising recommendations, promotional ideas, a product list and marketing tools in support of the campaign.

Frieda’s has introduced more than 200 specialty items to U.S. produce departments, including Kiwifruit, Spaghetti Squash, Habanero Peppers, Black Garlic, Sunchokes and Stokes Purple Sweet Potato, among others.
