Giant Appointment

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Giant Industries Inc. yesterday said its board of directors has elected Brooks Klimley to the company's board.

Klimley, a long-time resident of New York, has nearly 20 years of investment banking experience with major Wall Street firms. Klimley currently serves as a managing director with Salomon Smith Barney, a subsidiary of Citigroup.

"We are pleased to welcome Mr. Klimley to our board. Brooks brings an extensive investment banking background and considerable knowledge of refining and marketing to the board. With these qualities, I believe Brooks' election to the board will be beneficial for our company," said Fred Holliger, Giant's chairman and chief executive. "Brooks is the second outside independent director that our board of directors has elected in the past 60 days. We believe the election of additional directors brings new resources and a diversity of disciplines to our board.

"Additionally, in light of recent events in corporate America, our board believes that it is good corporate governance to elect additional outside directors."

Giant Industries owns and operates 148 convenience stores and travel centers under the Mustang and Giant brands and three refineries.
