Leinenkugel Brewing Expands Beyond Midwest
CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wisc. -- Miller Brewing Co. subsidiary, Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Co., has expanded distribution of its Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat to five new markets chosen by distributor interest and consumer research. They are: Atlanta.; Philadelphia; Austin and Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas; and Tampa/Jacksonville, Fla.
Sunset Wheat -- launched in Spring 2006 -- is a specialty beer that has a slightly fruity, citrus character spiced with coriander, and is brewed with a combination of malted wheat and pale barely malt and cluster hops.
The brew, which has received a bronze medal in the herb and spice beer category at the Brewers Association World Beer Cup, is benefiting from the expanding craft beer category, which is up 11 percent in the first half of 2006, according to the association.
Leinenkugel's even has its own national fan club called the "Leinie Lodge" with nearly 175,000 members. "We are inundated daily with inquiries about bringing Leinenkugel's beer beyond the Midwest and are excited about the opportunity to introduce our versatile, quality beers to new audiences," said Jake Leinenkugel, a fifth generation brewer and company president. "While we may be expanding, we will not lose sight of the markets that have supported our brand and have been instrumental in growing our business."
