Mentor, Minn. C-store Reopens a Year After Storm

MENTOR, Minn. -- The Mentor C-store here has been rebuilt and reopened after being destroyed by a tornado on June 17, 2010, Clark Brands announced. The fully rebuilt Clark-branded store, located off U.S. Highway 2, now offers fuel and goods to customers from nearby Erskine, Dugdale, Crookston and Fertile, Minn.

"I am thrilled to see this location reopen," said Karl Goodhouse, president and CEO of Clark Brands. "We look forward to working with Amy and Chris Motteberg, the station's new owners, to showcase the resilience of the independent fuel operator. While we are deeply saddened by the loss of one of 'our own,' we applaud the efforts of the Michaels family to rebuild."

Previous owner Wes Michaels was killed during the storm while protecting his daughter Heidi from falling debris. He is survived by his wife Kathy, daughters Amy, Kari and Heidi, and four grandchildren.

Clark Brands said it will donate $500 to the Wesley Michaels Scholarship fund at Fertile-Beltrami High School in honor of Michaels. Todd Johnson of Johnson Oil, a local Clark marketer and fuel supplier to the Mentor C-Store, will present the check to the Michaels family.
