Retailers Get Valuation Tips

NEW YORK -- The Appraisal Institute. has released a new book to aid appraisers in the complex valuing of convenience store and gas station properties.

"Convenience Stores and Retail Fuel Properties: Essential Appraisal Issues" is a 147-page text that presents practical techniques that real estate appraisal professionals can use to collect data, analyze local markets and value both proposed and existing properties in the ever-changing convenience store industry. The text also provides an overview of the physical characteristics of convenience stores and recent development trends in the industry, as well as a working vocabulary of the specialized language used in the convenience store business.

The Appraisal Institute, which represents more than 18,000 members worldwide, estimates that more than 120,000 convenience stores operate in the United States today, and each one depends on the proper mix of a desirable location and a streamlined business operation.
