Sheetz Mourns Loss of One of Its Own
ALTOONA, Penn. -- Services will be held today for Joseph Sheetz, executive vice president of store development at Sheetz Inc., who passed away Monday morning at Altoona Regional Health System after an extended battle with kidney cancer.
Sheetz, 60, was a 1963 graduate of Altoona High School, attended Robert Morris College and graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The Hollidaysburg, Penn. resident enjoyed golf, coaching youth sports and especially spending time with his family, according to his obituary in The Altoona Mirror.
He leaves behind his wife of 25 years, Patty; six children, his mother, two sisters, five brothers, seven grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family said in a letter to its vendor partners: "[We] would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and cards during this difficult period. Joe always enjoyed reading the cards and toward the end, listening as family members read the cards to him."
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today, and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
At the request of the family, funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
