Sunoco Raises More than $1.7M for Pennsylvania United Way

PHILADELPHIA -- Sunoco Inc. raised $1.786 million during its annual campaign for the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, assisted by its employees, retirees and the company itself, Charles K. Valutas, senior vice president for the company, said in a statement.

"All Sunoco employees should feel very good about the significant and long-lasting impact their generous donations will have on the community," he said.

The most recent donation tops the amount raised in 2006 by 5.3 percent, according to the company.

The campaign was headed by Sunoco employees at its Frankford, Pa., facility. The group increased their giving by 17 percent, while company retirees' pledges were up 18 percent compared to last year, Valutas stated.

"Leadership giving [donations of $1,000 or more] was also very strong in 2007," Jose Cabrera, vice president and co-chair for the company's Leadership Giving, said in a statement. "Our total of more than $628,000 represented an increase of 7.8 percent over the previous year."

As a result of the increased donations, the company will up its commitment to the Neighborhood Assistance Program, bringing the grand total of Sunoco's donation to more than $2 million, according to Valutas.
