Valero Donates to Children's Charities
SAN ANTONIO -- Valero Energy Corp. CEO Bill Klesse recently handed out checks totaling $1.3 million to 65 children’s charities in the San Antonio area. The donations were generated by Valero and the sponsors and business partners who participated in its 2008 Valero Texas Open Benefit for Children Golf Classic and the Valero Texas Open.
Nationwide, Valero plans to distribute $8.5 million to children’s charities in all of the areas where the company operates. All charity recipients are nominated and selected by the company’s employees, the San Antonio Express-News reported.
Valero, the nation’s largest refiner, handed out the checks to the heads of the charities in a ceremony at its headquarters in Northwest San Antonio, the report stated.
Also, on Thanksgiving Day, Valero treated more than 300 members of the U.S. military to a traditional holiday meal. About 200 Valero volunteers served the meal in the company’s cafeteria, according to the newspaper.
