Parker's Honored for Headquarters Historic Renovation
SAVANNAH, Ga. — Parker’s convenience store chain has been honored with a Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation Award for Excellence in Rehabilitation for its renovation of the historic Philbrick-Eastman House at 17 W. McDonough St. in Savannah, Ga., where The Parker Cos. corporate operations currently reside.
The honor was presented at The Georgia Trust’s 39th Annual Preservation Awards in Atlanta on April 22.
Currently celebrating its 40th anniversary, Parker’s received one of 28 top awards recognizing the best preservation projects in Georgia. The Philbrick-Eastman House — which overlooks Chippewa Square in Downtown Savannah — also won a Historic Savannah Foundation Preservation Award in 2015, as CSNews Online previously reported.
'“We are deeply honored to receive this statewide honor from the Georgia Trust,” said Parker’s President and CEO Greg Parker. “We felt a responsibility to restore this landmark Savannah building to its former glory. We paid attention to every detail to ensure that the restoration of this treasured Savannah mansion respects the structure’s history while enabling us to expand our operations in America’s most beautiful city.”
The 15,000-square-foot Greek revival mansion was renovated with remarkable attention to detail, Parker's said. The company moved into the new state-of-the-art corporate headquarters in the heart of Savannah’s National Landmark Historic District in February 2015.
Parker's new headquarters was built on one of Savannah's original trust lots by Irish-born architect Charles B. Cluskey. It features Doric columns, 14-foot ceilings, elaborate crown moldings, original oak floors and decorative iron fencing with medallions of famous Americans. Ralph Kuhn of Kuhn Construction Co. served as the general contractor for the renovation project and Greenline Architecture Inc. served as the lead architect.
In 2015 Parker’s ranked on Inc. magazine's elite list of the top 5,000 fast-growing private companies in the U.S. for four consecutive years. It also recently earned the Regional Economic Impact Award from the Bluffton Chamber of Commerce.
Parker has been honored by Convenience Store News as the Tech Executive of the Year and by the Savannah Chamber of Commerce as the Entrepreneur of the Year.
Savannah, Ga.-based Parker’s operates 44 c-stores across Georgia and South Carolina. The company is celebrating its 40th anniversary now through August.
