Brookshire Bros. Divesting 26 Polk Pick-It-Up Stores
LUFKIN, Texas — Brookshire Brothers Inc. will sell 26 of its Polk Pick-It-Up convenience stores located throughout east Texas to Partners Investors C-stores Ltd., according to a KTRE 9 News report. Brookshire Brothers will keep its Polk locations in Hudson, Central Heights, Central and Wells, Texas.
"We are continuously evaluating our business to ensure optimal resource utilization," stated Brookshire Brothers Chief Operating Officer John Alston. "Our focus is to provide an exceptional shopping experience for our customers in all of our formats, including the recently launched Brookshire Brothers Express banner."
Brookshire Brothers plans to continue expansion beyond its current footprint, with new stores scheduled to open this year in Hamilton, Pilot Point and Canyon Lake, Texas, the company said. It also recently purchased land for a future store in Grapeland, Texas.
The company is performing well despite the store sale, according to Brookshire Brothers spokeswoman Sally Alvis.
"We are looking at the whole company," Alvis said. "We are growing where it makes sense."
Founded in 1921, Brookshire Brothers is 100 percent employee-owned with retail assets that include c-stores, grocery stores and freestanding pharmacy, tobacco and gas station locations.
