Dollar General Reveals Small-Format Concept

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General Corp. continues to make big plans. This time they are in the form of a small format convenience store.

The new, smaller format store is tentatively branded DGX. It is expected to open in downtown Nashville in early 2017.

The 3,400-square-foot store will offer typical c-store fare, including immediate-consumption items like fountain soda, coffee, candy and snacks, and grab-and-go sandwiches. DGX will also offer an assortment of limited items, like pet supplies, paper products, home cleaning supplies, an expanded health and beauty section, electronics, and home and seasonal products.

Lastly, the store will include a checkout lane geared toward a high-volume, smaller basket.

Dollar General is also planning to open a similar DGX concept store in Raleigh, N.C., in early 2017.

The move to smaller formats is the latest in Dollar General's plan to expand 2,200 stores over the next two years for a total of more than 14,000 stores, as CSNews Online previously reported.

Goodlettsville-based Dollar General operated more than 13,000 stores in 43 states as of Oct. 28.
