7-Eleven Brings Back Bring Your Own Cup Days

IRVING, Texas — 7-Eleven Inc. is bringing back Bring Your Own (BYO) Cup days to its U.S. convenience stores on Friday, Aug. 19 and Saturday, Aug. 20 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Slurpee lovers are invited to bring a container and fill it with their favorite flavor for $1.50, the cost of a medium Slurpee drink.

7-Eleven first brought BYO Cup Day to the United States in August 2015 after holding the event at stores in Australia, Canada, the Philippines and Malaysia, as CSNews Online previously reported.

Each customer is limited to a single container that must be leak-proof, safe and sanitary, and fit through an in-store display with a 10-inch-diameter hole, meaning no trash cans or bags, kiddy pools or kitchen sinks, 7-Eleven said. For those who forget a container, 7-Eleven will offer 32-ounce Slurpee fishbowls for $3.99 while supplies last.

"This is Slurpee's 50th birthday year, so everything is bigger, and that includes BYO Cup Day," said Laura Gordon, vice president of marketing and brand innovation for 7-Eleven. "This year's event is double the days and happening twice as many times. Last time, lots of people posted photos on social media, unofficially competing for 'most unusual' honors."

7-Eleven is encouraging fans to use the hashtag #BYOCupDay on social media when sharing their BYO Cup Day Slurpee experience. On Snapchat, an animated Slurpee lens will be available on Aug. 19 and a geofilter will be available at stores both days.

Slurpees purchased during BYO Cup Day will count as a punch on 7Rewards, the expanded customer loyalty platform that rewards customers with a free beverage for every six cups purchased through the 7-Eleven mobile app. If a customer already has six digital punches on their rewards card, they can redeem their free seventh drink at BYO Cup Day.

Irving-based 7-Eleven Inc. operates, franchises and licenses more than 10,700 7-Eleven stores in North America.
