7-Eleven & Chesapeake Energy Among Top Military-Friendly Employers

DALLAS -- Just in time for Veterans Day, several companies in the convenience and petroleum retailing industry have been named to Victory Media Inc.’s 2014 Top 100 Military Friendly Employers list. The annual ranking honors the top tier of institutions with leading opportunities for military service members.

Dallas-based 7-Eleven Inc. claimed the No. 30 spot on this year’s list, while Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy Corp. landed at No. 61. Representing the supplier side, PepsiCo Inc. ranked No. 25.

Victory Media also released its Top 50 Military Spouse Employers List, with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service ranking No. 1. Also appearing on this list are 7-Eleven, Chesapeake Energy, PepsiCo, Shell and The Coca-Cola North America Group.

"The 2014 Military Friendly Employers represent the preeminent tier of companies with strong military recruitment programs and meaningful job opportunities for transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment," said Sean Collins, vice president of Victory Media and a nine-year Navy veteran. "Our Military Friendly Employers constitute the group of companies actually moving the needle and hiring from the military community. The 2014 Military Friendly Employers reported hiring over 117,000 service members and spouses over the last 12 months, representing an average of 14 percent of total new hires."

Companies competed for the Military Friendly Employer title via a data-driven survey of more than 5,000 companies. The resulting survey data was independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media. Criteria included a benchmark score across key programs and policies such as the strength of company military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service, retention programs, and company policies on National Guard and Reserve service.

Victory Media publishes G.I. Jobs, Military Spouse and Vetrepreneur magazines.
