7-Eleven Employee Makes Mount Everest History

KATHMANDU, Nepal — A 7-Eleven store employee has again made history by climbing Mount Everest for the seventh time.

Lhakpa Sherpa, 42, who works at a Connecticut 7-Eleven location, climbed the world’s highest mountain, which rises more than 29,000 feet above sea level, on May 20. In doing so, she broke her own record for the most summits reached on Mount Everest by any woman.

Sherpa reached the peak of the mountain from the Tibetan side. Mount Everest also reaches into Nepal, where Sherpa is a native.

Apa Sherpa and Phurba Tashi Sherpa, also of Nepal, hold the all-time record for reaching the summit of Mount Everest, each accomplishing this feat 21 times.
