7-Eleven Hawaii Investing in $30M Makeover

HONOLULU – 7-Eleven Hawaii Inc. will undergo a $30-million rebranding campaign during the next five years so that its 61 stores in the Aloha State have a standardized look reflecting the company’s new “Your Neighborhood Store” concept.

According to Pacific Business News, each store will undergo a $500,000 renovation project. Some stores have already been completed, 7-Eleven Hawaii CEO Greg Hanna told the news outlet.

“When I took over as CEO three years ago, we looked at our stores and they were different shapes and sizes, so they had no standardization,” Hanna recalled. “So, we realized we needed to come up with a common theme that linked our customers and employees to the brand.”

The c-store retailer eventually settled on “Your Neighborhood Store.”

“We actually walked the neighborhoods to figure out what the customers want to buy,” Hanna told Pacific Business News. “Then, we tried to connect what the customer wants to the products we offer and the physical appearances of our stores.”

CSNews Online reported on Jan. 1 that 7-Eleven Hawaii planned to open two new 2,000-plus square-foot Honolulu stores, each employing 15 workers, by the first quarter of this year. These stores have since opened and are part of a grander 7-Eleven Hawaii plan to operate 100 c-stores in the Aloha State within the next four years.

If this goal is reached, the retailer would control approximately one-third of the convenience stores on the Hawaiian Islands. 7-Eleven Hawaii is already the state’s largest convenience store chain.
