7-Eleven Makes Top Five of 2015 Global Franchises

DALLAS — 7-Eleven Inc. is not just one of the largest convenience store chains in the world, it is also one of the top franchises.

In the 2015 Franchise Direct Top 100 Global Franchises report, the Dallas-based retailer ranks No. 5 behind Subway, McDonald's, KFC and Burger King.

According to the report, the 7-Eleven franchise system includes a license to use the service mark "7-Eleven;" training; continuing advice and assistance on operating a store; bookkeeping services; store inventory auditing; financing; merchandising assistance; advertising; and other services as described in the disclosure document. There are two types of franchises offered: a traditional individual 7-Eleven store and the Business Conversion Program franchise.

Joining 7-Eleven on this year's Top 100 list is Tempe, Ariz.-based Circle K at No. 29. According to the report, Circle K offers the franchisee the right to operate a single Circle K convenience store business. The franchisor may also enter into agreements with existing convenience store operators, existing dealers or existing marketers. Area development agreements are also granted to qualified franchisees for the right to develop multiple Circle K stores in a specific geographical area.

According to Franchise Direct, the franchises on its annual Top 100 Global Franchises list stand out from thousands of franchises that have invested in international expansion strategies.

The franchises were ranked using objective and measurable criteria, which includes:

  • System size based on numbers of units
  • Revenue for the system
  • Stability and growth
  • Number of years in operation
  • Market expansion

The ranking is also based on best practices in the areas of franchisee support and training; environmental policy; and social responsibility.
