7-Eleven Posts April Sales of $987.9 Million

DALLAS -- 7-Eleven Inc. reported April sales of $987.9 million, an increase of 12.6 percent over the prior year April total of $877.1 million. Total merchandise sales were $647.7 million, an increase of 8.7 percent over the April 2003 total of $596.1 million. U.S. same-store merchandise sales increased 8.2 percent, on top of a 0.6-percent increase in April 2003.

Gasoline sales for April were $340.2 million, a 21.1-percent increase compared to $281 million in the prior-year period. Average gallons sold per store increased 8.8 percent compared to the April 2003 result. The average retail price of gasoline was $1.84, compared to $1.64 in April 2003.

The following results compare year-to-date results through April 2004 to the same period last year:

* U.S. same-store merchandise sales increased 6.6 percent, on top of a 2.9-percent increase for 2003.

* Merchandise sales were $2.4 billion, an increase of 7.8 percent.

* Gasoline sales total $1.3 billion, an increase of 13.8 percent.

* Average gallons sold per store have increased 7.6 percent.
