7-Eleven Using Slurpee Cups to Boost App Downloads

DALLAS -- 7-Eleven Inc. has taken a new approach to encourage consumers to download its latest mobile application (app).

According to a report by Mobile Marketer, the convenience store chain is employing its Slurpee cups to ask customers to text the keyword FLAVOR to 711711. When customers opt in, they receive a message with a link to download the app via Apple's App Store or Google Play.

They can also reply with the keyword Y to receive alerts from the company. In an effort not to bombard customers, the c-store chain promises not to send more than eight alerts per month, the report noted.

7-Eleven has been aggressively trying to both improve and draw more customers to its mobile app, which features exclusive coupons and offers. As CSNews Online previously reported, 7-Eleven created the Idea Hub, where customers can share ideas about how to improve the app user experience. The Idea Hub is divided into four categories for suggestions: General, Stores, Events and Coupons.

The retailer did not respond to the news outlet's requests for comment.
