ACT Buys R-Con Centres
Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. (ACT), which recently entered the United States with its acquisition of the 170-unit, Indiana-based Johnson Oil Co., has returned its buying powers to Canada, scooping R-Con Centres Inc., which holds the master franchise of Mac's convenience stores in Manitoba.
ACT, operator of some 1,900 stores in North America, takes over 31 Mac's units, including eight with gasoline operations. The majority of the units are located in the Greater Winnipeg Area.
More important than the units themselves, ACT acquires the right to expand Mac's in Winnipeg and the rest of Manitoba. "The acquisition of R-Con Centres fits into our growth plan for the high-potential market of Western Canada, where our development team expects to continue expanding the network at the rate of about 30 new stores a year," said ACT President and CEO Alain Bouchard.
