Aloha Petroleum Donates $20,000
HONOLULU, Hawaii -- Aloha Petroleum Ltd. donated nearly $20,000 to the American Red Cross, Hawaii Chapter to support the agency's disaster relief efforts in American Samoa, the Philippines and Indonesia, the company reported.
Richard Parry, Aloha Petroleum president and chief executive officer, presented a check for $19,858.98 to Coralie Matayoshi, chief executive officer of the American Red Cross, Hawaii Chapter, at the gas and convenience store retailer's Dillingham location March 12.
After a string of natural disasters struck American Samoa, the Philippines and Indonesia last year, Aloha Petroleum set up donation canisters at its 30 Aloha Island Mini-Mart locations to collect funds to support Red Cross relief efforts, and collected $9,929.49 in three months.
"We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from our customers," Parry said in a released statement. "Many of our employees and customers have relatives and friends who live in the areas that were impacted. We wanted to do what we could to help and we knew that others in our community wanted to offer their support."
Aloha Petroleum matched the donated funds and handed out free doughnuts at its Dillingham location March 12 to thank customers.
"When disasters occur in our community, and throughout the world, the American Red Cross is always there to help," Parry said. "We're proud to support the Red Cross and help the organization continue its important work."
