Altadis U.S.A. and Montecristo Relief Efforts Exceed $1 Million

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Altadis U.S.A. and the Montecristo Relief Organization, a charitable organization founded in 1998, announced that the combined goal of raising $1 million for the American Red Cross to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina has been surpassed.

In the immediate aftermath of the storm, Altadis U.S.A. pledged up to $500,000 to the American Red Cross of which $100,000 was given immediately. In addition, the company offered to match up to $200,000 in donations from its employees, consumers, retailers, distributors and vendors. To date, these donations together with the matching funds have surpassed $418,000, bringing Altadis U.S.A.’s total pledge to over $518,000.

Along with these funds, an additional $500,000 was pledged by the Montecristo Relief Organization, initially established by Altadis U.S.A. to aid Caribbean hurricane victims, for combined donations of over $1,018,000.

The Montecristo Relief Organization is funded through donations and the proceeds of an annual Pro-Am golf tournament with golfers from the Champions Tour held in Puerto Rico each December.
