And the Winner Is?
The first award of its kind honoring chief executives in the retail industry for their involvement in, and support of, technology initiatives within their organizations has been established by RetailTech magazine, a sister publication of Convenience Store News.
The "Retail Technology Leadership Award" will be presented to five honorees annually, one each in the convenience store, supermarket/grocery, mass/drug, hospitality and specialty retail channels. The first awards will be presented in January 2002.
"Technology plays a such a critical role in the success of retail, beyond the daily routine needs of any business. Some of the most forward-thinking retail companies are led by individuals who not only support the implementation of technology for strategic advantage, but also are actively involved with the IT department," said Kevin Francella, publisher of RetailTech. "These executives are setting new standards that ultimately will benefit the entire retail industry. We think they should be recognized for that."
Award recipients will be announced in the January 2002 issue of RetailTech and honored at an awards dinner in New York City on January 14. This event coincides with the National Retail Federation (NRF) Annual Convention & Exposition being held in New York.
Nominations for these awards are now being sought. Nominators may be any retail industry executives who can support the nomination with factual data and examples of how their nominee has positively affected technology implementations within their companies. Nominators are asked to provide details on a simple four-question entry form available on the RetailTech Web site: www.retailtech.com.
The deadline for nominations is November 1, 2001. For information contact (646) 654-7565.
