Atlas Oil Sets Example as 'Green' Company
TAYLOR, Mich. -- With its biodiesel and ethanol offerings, along with a pledge to support green-based products, Atlas Oil Co. is making strides to become an industry leader in environmentally friendly initatives.
By offering blends of biodiesel ranging from B2 (2 percent biodiesel and 98 percent petroleum diesel) to B99, Atlas is helping to reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil as well as benefit stateside agriculture and economics, according to a company statement.
Atlas, which created a revamped renewable fuels logo in 2006, regularly sends representatives to green seminars and expos as well as partners with green events. In 2007, for example, the company catered to the "green" needs of The Dave Mathews Band and its crew.
Next month, the company will run its "When green things happen to good companies" campaign, an initiative that encourages Atlas team members to make green suggestions to its Ideas Make Cents employee suggestion program.
The company is also taking a green approach to dollars and cents. It recently added a "green" fund to its 401k portfolio, which allows environmentally conscious team members the option to vote "green" with their retirement investment dollars, which Atlas matches at 50 percent on the dollar for the first 6 percent.
Other company green initiatives include recycling paper towels in its restrooms, recycling 100 percent of its waste metal and tires, and the discontinuation of foam and plastic disposable cups in favor of paper products.
