Best Exterior Honorable Mention: Mill Bay Co-op Gas & Convenience Centre

The Mill Bay Co-op Gas & Convenience Centre, which opened Sept. 16, 2009, is the largest petroleum facility built to date by Peninsula Co-op, a member-owned gas station and convenience store operator based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

The new build includes a 3,300-square-foot convenience store, 20 fueling positions, a touchless car wash that runs on reclaimed water, and offers auto and bottle propane, and marine fuel. According to the company, the Mill Bay Co-op features some of the most extensive landscaping seen in a petroleum facility, and has a large digital media center with four flatscreens located above the fuel island paypoint. The exterior is finished with fieldstone and native wood, while inside, the store boasts energy-efficient coolers, low-flow, touch-free washrooms and a staff lunch room.

Based on initial results, annual fuel volume at the site is expected to be 12 million liters, which will make it one of the highest volume facilities in its trading area. Peninsula Co-op operates 12 corporate locations, with the profits shared among members.
