Best Interior Honorable Mention: Shoemaker's Truck Stop

Shoemaker's Truck Stop is the realized dream of owners Dave and Karen Shoemaker, who went to design firm Paragon Solutions Inc. in 2009 to build their ideal truck stop.

Located in Lincoln, Neb., along Highway 6 -- the longest U.S. highway to date, stretching more than 3,600 miles -- the 29,471-square-foot facility pays homage to the roadway through a panoramic mural that spans the store interior. The historical mural "connects [the store] to the road" and features landmarks seen along the highway, including the Rocky Mountains and Sears Tower, as well as lyrics from "America the Beautiful."

Shoemaker's, which opened in November 2009, features a 4,600-square-foot convenience store and an antique Texaco-themed restaurant. Old signage hangs from the open ceiling and walls, while vintage fuel pumps are placed along the booths and tables. The red and white eating space is also accented with brick touches.
