Best Single-Store Sky's the Limit Remodel Winner: Gas Land Shell
Best Sky’s the Limit Remodel (Single Store)*
Winner: Gas Land Shell, East Fishkill, N.Y. (Route 52)
Designer: Nesheiwat Builders Inc.
For its Shell location on Route 52 in East Fishkill, Gas Land Petroleum Inc. and designer Nesheiwat Builders Inc. set out to eliminate the existing auto repair service business and expand the gas station/convenience mart by 681-plus square feet, resulting in a 3,464-square-foot facility.
John Jay High School, located across the street from the store, inspired the interior design. Throughout the store, characteristics of the school are represented with athletic gear mounted on the walls, including baseball bats, hockey sticks and jerseys. On the way out, customers find the high school’s logo and a banner reading "Patriot Pride!" above the store’s exit.
After reinvigorating this location, Gas Land Shell customers’ perceived value of the store merchandise and brand increased, as reflected in increased sales, the company noted.
Although remodels are an extensive undertaking, Gas Land Petroleum views the challenge as an opportunity to grow the brand’s culture, as well as make a store location more successful. The company also believes that for Gas Land employees, working in a modern and well-designed store fosters team morale and garners interest from new job candidates.
