Bi-Lo Relaunches fuelperks! in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Bi-Lo gave away free gas to the first 100 customers as part of the Mauldin, S.C.-based grocer's reintroduction of its fuelperks! program this past week. Enlisting local radio station Star 92.1 FM to spread the word, Bi-Lo's "Free Gas Wednesday" built anticipation leading up to the afternoon event by having clues on the gas station's location revealed on the air the days and hours leading up to the giveaway. Customers had to have their My BI-LO BONUSCARDs on hand and be one of the first 100 in line to get a voucher for up to 20 gallons of free gas, the company reported.

Last fall, the company introduced the program to area residents, enabling them the opportunity to reduce the price they pay for gas by purchasing groceries. Since a technical glitch prevented Myrtle Beach customers from redeeming their fuelperks! rewards at all participating gas stations, Bi-Lo has spent the past few months correcting the issue with its program partners.

"We want to assure our customers that the technical issues have been resolved and that, despite being unable to redeem their rewards for the past few months, their earnings have continued to accrue each time they shopped at Bi-Lo and are now available for redemption," Bi-Lo President and CEO Michael Byars said in a released statement. "In the spirit of our commitment to being the store that saves our customers more, we want to thank them for their patience with this 'Free Gas Wednesday' event."

For every $50 a shopper spends at Bi-Lo, he or she receives a five-cent per-gallon reward applied to the My BI-LO BONUSCARD. Customers can redeem their fuelperks! rewards by swiping the card in the card reader at participating gas stations. The price per gallon on all grades of gas will automatically roll down by the amount of rewards earned. There's no limit to the amount of rewards a customer can earn.

Through Dallas-based Excentus, the administrator of fuelperks!, Bi-Lo is working with BP, Exxon and Shell to provide gas stations close to its Myrtle Beach stores, all of which are participating in the program.
