BI-LO Swings into Action

MAULDIN, S.C. -- The 2002 BI-LO Charity Classic raised more than $2.3 million in this year's annual golf outing, which took place June 10 in South Carolina.

Recognized as one of the nation's largest one-day benefit golf tournaments, the 19th annual BI-LO Charity Classic hosted more than 825 amateur golfers on eight South Carolina area golf courses. Funds raised by the tournament will be donated to charitable organizations in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee.

BI-LO Inc., a division of Ahold USA, operates 139 Golden Gallon convenience stores and 305 supermarkets in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. In its 19-year history, the BI-LO Charity Classic has raised more than $16 million for charity.

Founded in 1984 as a fundraiser for Meals On Wheels of Greenville, BI-LO's annual golf tournament places funding emphasis on hunger relief programs, children's charities and education. Meals On Wheels organizations in all four states receive funding from the Charity Classic, helping these groups serve over 13,000 meals to the elderly and disabled every day of the year.
