BP Brings Cleaner Fuel to Virginia

NORFOLK, Va. -- BP continued the rollout of its cleaner-burning fuels yesterday making the new lower-sulfur premium gasoline available at BP and Amoco stations in the Hampton Roads, Va. area.

BP and Amoco convenience stores will offer the cleaner-burning premium gasoline year-round. The fuel is available more than three years ahead of EPA specifications for sulfur reduction by 2006. BP also said it plans to price the fuel competitively in the marketplace.

"By bringing this cleaner-burning, lower-sulfur fuel to the Hampton Roads area now, BP is jumping ahead of government mandates to reduce sulfur and smog," said Terry Wallace, BP regional vice president.

Amoco Ultimate lower-sulfur premium gasoline contains 54 percent less sulfur than BP's previous premium gasoline.

"As we move toward a fresh new retail look at Hampton Roads BP stations, we are proud to continue to provide the quality Amoco fuels people have always trusted," Wallace said. "Amoco fuels were the first to be lead-free and first to offer three grades of fuel. Now we're first in this area with cleaner-burning, lower-sulfur, lower-emission fuels -- more than three years ahead of federal mandates."

BP operates more than 4,000 convenience stores in the United States, including approximately 600 in Virginia.
