Casey's Same-store Gas Sales Drop
ANKENY, Iowa -- Casey's General Stores Inc., operator of convenience stores headquartered here, saw same store gas sales drop 5.6 percent in the month of December 2007 compared to the year-ago period, The Associated Press reported.
During that time, the average retail price of gasoline sold during the month was $2.83 per gallon, according to the AP.
Meanwhile, the company's same-store sales for in-store categories, including grocery and other merchandise, rose 3.1 percent, while prepared food and fountain sales jumped 6.4 percent, the AP reported, citing a recent Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
CSNews Online reported in early December the chain saw revenue climb in the second quarter of fiscal 2008, to nearly $1.2 billion dollars, thanks to strong inside sales.
Same-store gas gallons sold were down 1.6 percent for the second quarter of 2008, while total gallons sold were up 3.9 percent for the quarter, with an average margin of $0.16, the company stated in early December.
