Champlain Oil Teams With Gilbarco to Address EMV Liability Shift

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. — Champlain Oil Co. is addressing upcoming EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) liability shift deadlines by employing Gilbarco Veeder-Root's suite of products.

Champlain Oil, operator of more than 100 convenience stores and gas stations in Vermont, New Hampshire and New York, selected Gilbarco as its provider of EMV-ready dispensers, CRIND payment terminals, media applications and point-of-sale (POS) technology. This includes deploying Gilbarco's Passport POS and Encore dispenser system across its network.

In addition, Champlain is rolling out Applause TV at the pump — the first major retailer in Vermont to introduce media at the forecourt, according to Gilbarco.

"We chose to partner with Gilbarco because of their unique ability to provide a comprehensive, one-stop solution for EMV,” said Bryan Cairns, Champlain's vice president. “We will benefit from their platform bringing innovative retail capabilities to our sites with Applause TV, Encore fuel dispensers and Passport Point of Sale.”

Travis Bouck, vice president of marketing, North America, for Gilbarco, added that the company is pleased to work with Champlain. “They have taken a proactive approach to EMV implementation by using our secure payment terminals and media solution to enhance their consumers’ experience and offset a significant portion of the upgrade costs.”

Under EMV guidelines, retailers who do not upgrade their POS equipment by Oct. 1 may be held financially responsible for fraudulent transactions. The EMV liability shift for forecourt transactions will take place Oct. 1, 2017.

Greensboro, N.C.-based Gilbarco Veeder-Root is a technology provider for both retail and commercial fueling operations.
