The companies will collaborate on technology that lets drivers pay for fuel and make convenience store purchases from inside their vehicle, which enabling a more secure and convenient experience.

The technology will also offer Chevron marketers and retailers new ways to reach retailers and help drive brand loyalty, the company said.

"We are delighted to announce our new collaboration with Honda Developer Studio," said Gilson Ribeiro, Chevron's general manager of marketing in the Americas. "Tapping into their expertise in advanced in-vehicle technology, we will be able to offer consumers a more seamless fueling experience when purchasing our high-quality Chevron and Texaco-branded fuels. Chevron is also working with Honda to offer consumers a more personalized, convenient c-store experience."

Chevron demonstrated the in-vehicle payment technology concept for fueling at the pump at its 2018 Retail Convention, held Oct. 3-4 in Phoenix, Ariz. To use it, drivers must open the in-vehicle app from the dashboard after parking near the pump, then select the pump number and payment method before they begin fueling.

"Payments have evolved from physical plastic cards to a digital, mobile wallet and Honda Developer Studio sees this as an opportunity to bring this technology into the car to pay for services from the comfort of one's own vehicle," said John Moon, managing director, strategic partnerships at Honda Innovations. "Together with Chevron, we can help create a whole new in-vehicle experience for consumers focused on simplicity and convenience."

San Ramon-based Chevron is one of the world's largest integrated energy companies.
