Citgo Refinery Fire Out

A fire at Citgo's Lake Charles Refinery burned itself out on Saturday after more than 18 hours.

Production in the unaffected units remains diminished, but Citgo Chief Executive Oswaldo Contreras said the company expects to meet all its commitments.

"We are committed to making the necessary repairs to bring the refinery back up to full production as quickly as we possibly can," Contreras said in a statement. "In the meantime, we expect to meet all of our contractual obligations."

Refinery officials are investigating the cause of the fire. Contreras said the company has not determined the extent of damage to the unit or how long repairs will take.

Tulsa, Okla.-based Citgo Petroleum Corp., is a wholly owned subsidiary of PDV America, Inc., an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A., the national oil company of Venezuela.
