Colorado C-stores Lose Beer Fight

DENVER -- Colorado convenience stores have lost their bid to sell full-strength beer , according to an Associated Press report.
Members of the House Finance Committee killed a bill that would have allowed the practice. The bill had gotten the backing of another committee earlier this month, but faced strong opposition from both liquor-store owners and craft breweries.

The same coalition has killed previous attempts by convenience stores and supermarkets to make inroads in the liquor business.

Convenience stores can sell beer with 3.2 percent alcohol but they say they've been losing money on those sales now that liquor stores that sell full-strength beer can stay open on Sundays.

Supermarkets are still hoping to win the right to sell beer, wine and liquor by buying out the licenses of some liquor stores.
