Community Service Awards Entry Deadline Approaches
NEW YORK -- Only a few days remain to enter Convenience Store News' 2010 Spirit Awards for Community Outreach, an award program created to recognize the most outstanding community service activities in the convenience store industry.
Now in its second year, one winner will be selected in each of three chain-size categories -- companies with 1-99 c-stores, companies with 100-499 c-stores and companies with 500-plus c-stores. A Grand Spirit Award winner will also be selected from all entries.
Entries will be judged on:
-- The scope of giving;
-- The personal involvement of company management and company associates;
-- The degree to which the retailer gets its shoppers to participate
-- The innovation and creativity of the programs; and,
-- The good outcomes achieved.
The entry deadline is June 30. Winners will be announced in the Nov. 1 issue of CSNews, and award ceremony held in the city of the Grand Spirit Award winner in September.
Launched in 2009, the purpose of the award program is to raise the visibility of the convenience store industry as a positive force in America, to encourage increased community involvement by industry retailers, and to reward innovative and hands-on approaches to solving critical social problems.
The 2009 winners were:
-- Grand Spirit Award for Community Outreach: Stripes
-- For companies with one to 99 c-stores: Rutter's
-- For companies with 100-499 c-stores: Pilot Travel Centers
-- For companies with 500-plus c-stores: Speedway SuperAmerica
