Consumers Vote for Kettle Foods' Cheddar Beer and Spicy Thai Chips
While Strawberry Cream flavored potato chips caught everyone's attention, consumers voted Cheddar Beer and Spicy Thai their favorites during Kettle Foods' online People's Choice Campaign. The two new potato chip flavors hit shelves this summer.
"The results validate what we're seeing: People are craving intense flavors and are opening up to finding them in unexpected places," said Carolyn Richards, chief flavor architect of Kettle Foods. "And talk about unexpected. We were inspired by the number of drink-related flavor nominations and decided to follow our customers' lead for the next edition of People's Choice."
More than 50,000 votes were cast by consumers to choose the company's first-ever People's Choice selection. Kettle Foods is now inviting consumers to nominate their favorite beverage flavors, whether inspired by a cocktail, coffee, tea, juice or any other kind of liquid refreshment. Consumers can submit ideas online at www.straightupflavor.com.
The Cheddar Beer chip combines tangy cheese with malty beer notes. Spicy Thai balances sweet and hot flavors with its chili, ginger, lime, and honey notes. Both flavors were developed to complement the rich potato flavor and hearty crunch of Kettle brand Potato Chips.
Kettle Foods declared the winning flavors after they received the highest ratings on the Crave-O-Meter during online voting this past spring. Also on the ballot for consideration were Chai, Moroccan Curry and Strawberry Cream. All five flavors were submitted by real consumers last summer and tested by the folks at Kettle Foods.
The People's Choice flavors join the company's existing lineup of combinations such as Roasted Red Pepper with Goat Cheese, Jalapeño with Tequila and Lime and Honey Dijon. Founded in 1978, Oregon-based Kettle Foods is a privately owned company. It leads the industry as the No. 1 salty snack brand in natural supermarkets.
