At the Crossroads

PITTSBURGH -- Giant Eagle Inc., based here, says it plans to expand into new retail channels by entering into a joint venture with Belle Vernon, Pa.-based Guttman Enterprises, which operates the Crossroads convenience store chain.

Guttman Enterprises operates 27 convenience stores, all open 24 hours, in Pennsylvania. A company spokesman could not be reached.

"The joint venture will pursue new marketing and merchandising opportunities in the convenience store and fuels business," Giant Eagle said in a statement, adding that further details about the venture will be released at a later date.

Giant Eagle currently manages fuel stations at some of its 120 supermarkets throughout Maryland, western Pennsylvania, Ohio, and northern West Virginia.
