Cumberland Farms Provides College Scholarships

By W.B. King

RUTLAND, Vt. -- Approximately 80 students living in the Northeast and Florida will receive $1,000 scholarships from Cumberland Farms through its third annual Believe and Achieve Scholarship for college-bound seniors.

"The Believe and Achieve Scholarship program was one of the founding programs Cumberland Farms initiated when it started its corporate giving program three years ago," Cumberland Farm spokesperson, Christen Graham, told CSNews Online. "This scholarship program has been an instrumental piece from the inception of the corporate giving program. Through its Corporate Giving Program for Youth, Cumberland Farms is working to improve the prospects for young people, encourage and support their achievements in business and leadership, and provide educational opportunities."

Students living within 30 miles of any Cumberland Farms location are eligible. The program, Graham noted, is also open to children of Cumberland Farms’ employees.

Students are judged on academic performance, and students with financial needs receive special consideration. "The families and promising young people in the communities where we operate have had an overwhelming positive response," Graham told CSNews Online. "We are hoping to include even more applicants as we enter the third year of the program."

Applications can be submitted online through www.cumberlandfarms.com from Oct. 15 through Dec. 15. Information about the Believe and Achieve Scholarship, including entry criteria and deadlines, is available online and at Cumberland Farms locations.
