Cumberland Farms Receives Computerworld Laureate Honors

BOSTON -- Cumberland Farms and Greystone Solutions were honored for its collective Handheld Productivity Initiative, as part of Computerworld's Honors Program, which recognizes organizations from around the world whose information technology applications promote positive social, economic and educational change.

"We are certainly honored to have received this achievement, which we worked on with Greystone Solutions hand-in-hand," Cumberland Farms' marketing manager, Jason Florio told CSNews Online.

The Initiative, designed and developed by Greystone Solutions, earned Laureate recognition for Cumberland Farms. "It was a pleasant surprise," Robert Shear, president Greystone Solutions, told CSNews Online. “We are proud and honored of the system we built with Cumberland Farms, and that it was recognized by Computerworld's Honors Program."

Shear explained the Microsoft Windows Mobile solution expedites reporting times and enables Cumberland Farms' field staff to report data from the field. "Using PalmTreo Smartphones that securely connect to corporate databases, the mobile application allows field staff to view historical pricing trends and communicate with headquarters instantly regarding store problems or environmental issues while on the road," said Shear.

Today, Cumberland Farm's streamlined communications and increased connectivity are improving corporate business processes and decision-making, while still keeping IT costs manageable, explained Florio.

"In today's corporate climate you can not underestimate the importance of building relationships with field personnel and customers," Florio told CSNews Online. "This solution maximizes those relationships."
