Dallas C-store Owner Creates Wall of Shame

DALLAS – A convenience store owner in south Dallas has responded to thefts by posting photos of suspects on a "Wall of Shame" in the store's front window, along with descriptions of what they tried to steal, according to an NBC DFW report.

Sam Farah, who owns several c-stores and gas stations, set up a surveillance system that includes 200 interior and exterior cameras at his Exxon Rayyan location at 3003 E. Illinois Ave. Clerks and managers can watch suspected shoplifters and lock the store's doors if they start to leave without paying, after which the suspects must decide whether to pay or be arrested.

"Just too many people stealing," Farah told the news outlet. "We want everybody who's stealing to not come back here."

Most thieves want to shoplift alcohol, he said.

Farah hasn't faced any lawsuits over the Wall of Shame because of his recorded proof, he added, and his goal is simply to stop thefts.

The surveillance system has also reportedly helped neighboring businesses and the police by capturing photos of armed robbery suspects and other criminals.
