Delaware Governor Recognizes Wawa for Food Safety

DOVER, Del. -- Wawa was among 11 local eateries honored at the annual Governor's Awards for Excellence in Retail Food Safety, the Dover Post reported. The event is presented by the state's Division of Public Health and the Delaware Restaurant Association.

While Wawa was not ultimately one of the three winners of the award, the convenience store retailer was a finalist with two nominations -- one for the Wawa Food Market in Wilmington and the other for Wawa Food Markets of Delaware.

Nominees were evaluated based on criteria including implementing operating procedures that address the five Centers for Disease Control risk factors, providing all employees with training to implement those procedures, establishment of monitoring procedures and more.

"Knowing that businesses and organizations are ensuring the safety of food is as important as taste," Gov. Jack Markell stated. "We appreciate the measures these outstanding members of the food industry are taking every day to make sure their foods are both safe and enjoyable."
