Dollar General to Enter Three New States
GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. -- Dollar General's familiar banner will be popping up in three new states within the next year, boosting the company's footprint to 43 states.
The Goodlettsville-based retailer will begin construction on stores in Maine and Rhode Island this fall, with plans to expand into Oregon in early 2015.
"It's exciting to announce plans to add stores in three new states, which will give Dollar General locations in all Northeastern states and a presence in the Pacific Northwest," said Rick Dreiling, Dollar General's chairman and CEO. "Announcing this expansion simultaneously with our 75th anniversary in 2014 further demonstrates Dollar General's enduring legacy of 'Serving Others' and providing customers quality, convenience and everyday low prices."
Dollar General's move into Maine and Rhode Island comes on the heels of the company's expansion into neighboring Northeastern states in recent years. New stores in Oregon will increase the company's visibility on the West Coast after opening stores in California in 2012, including the company's 10,000th store in Merced, Calif.
"Dollar General looks forward to serving customers in Maine, Rhode Island and Oregon with the incredible value and affordability that has enabled us to build such a loyal customer base in the 40 states we currently serve," said Todd Vasos, Dollar General's chief operating officer.
Stores in Maine and Rhode Island will be served by the retailer's new Bethel, Pa., distribution center. Oregon stores will be served by the dollar store chain's Lebec, Calif., distribution center that opened in April 2012.
