Exxon Brand to Exit Washington and Oregon
By W.B. King
IRVING, Texas -- CSNews Online has learned that effective Jan. 29, 2009, the company will officially withdraw the Exxon brand from western Washington state and all of Oregon.
While a specific reason was not given for the deal, company spokeswoman Beth Snyder told CSNews Online the company "continually assesses the market to determine the most efficient business strategies."
Snyder did not attend the meeting, but explained that it was well-received. "We wanted to have a face-to-face meeting with our distributors because we are committed to a smooth transition with our customers, dealers and distributors."
Since ExxonMobil's current market share in the region is approximately 3 percent, Snyder told CSNews Online the company "doesn't expect a noticeable impact on consumers in the region." She reiterated, "we will make the transition a smooth as possible."
