Exxon Mobil Donates $500k to Local Charities
IRVING, Texas -- ExxonMobil made a surprise donation of $500,000 to United Way of Beaumont and north Jefferson County, area television station KYTX TV reported.
United Way supports nonprofit organizations such as the Shorkey Center, the Southeast Texas Food Bank and multiple counseling centers. All of the money United Way receives and distributes stays local, the report stated.
For example, Nutrition and Services for Seniors in Beaumont receives funding from United Way, feeding 5,000 people per year in Jefferson and Hardin Counties, and the Meals on Wheels program delivers hot meals and groceries to home-bound seniors.
Without help from donations and United Way, the nonprofit Nutrition and Services for Seniors would not be able to provide its services, according to the report.
