ExxonMobil Embarks on 20th Year of Community Summer Jobs Program

DALLAS -- The ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program is celebrating its 20th year in Dallas, and 75 nonprofits were selected to receive college interns for eight weeks this summer, the company reported.

The interns will be paid through the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program, which for 20 years has offered undergraduate college students paid summer internships in nonprofit and community service sectors.

"It is more important than ever that college graduates enter the work force with real experience and a competitive edge, and the Community Summer Jobs Program gives students that opportunity," said Robert Lanyon, corporate citizenship and community investments manager for ExxonMobil, which is based in nearby Irving, Texas. "This program supports both student education and helps the agencies provide more services to the community."

Community Summer Jobs Program interns provide the agencies with much-needed assistance, while gaining knowledge of various aspects of a nonprofit organization, according to the company. The students benefit from hands-on experience, a group service project and three professional development seminars.

ExxonMobil Foundation will contribute nearly $270,000 to this year's program to provide for interns' salaries and administrative expenses.

Additionally, the Volunteer Center of North Texas administers the program and trains agencies on the recruitment and intern selection processes. Each participating agency is responsible for hiring its own full-time undergraduate intern.

"For two decades, this program has enriched the professional development of interns while making a real difference in our nonprofit community," said John Withers, board chairman of the Volunteer Center of North Texas. "We are proud to continue our partnership with ExxonMobil and look forward to being a part of the many successes that lie ahead."
