Fas Mart to Donate $10,000 Lottery Bonus to Red Cross

GLADE SPRING, Va. -- Fas Mart's store at 12424 Maple Street here sold a winning $5 Million Club lottery ticket that made Charles Neal of Meadowview a $1 million prize winner.

"I went out of the store and hollered," Neal said, describing his reaction to the big win.

The store received a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket, and Fas Mart has decided to give back to the community by donating the entire amount to the Mountain Empire chapter of the Red Cross. The Glade Spring community was hit hard by tornados on April 27.

The store was able to reopen within one day and provide support to emergency responders and the community by providing food and water for two weeks, according to a news release.

Neal, who had the choice of taking the full $1 million prize in annual payments over 25 years or a one-time cash option of $642,000 before taxes, chose the cash option.

Virginia's $5 Million Club lottery game offers a top prize of $5 million; $1 million is the second prize. Neal is the game's fourth $1 million winner. Two $5 million tickets have been claimed so far, leaving three top-prize tickets still unclaimed, according to the Virginia Lottery.
